Hi, I'm Gavin, a documentary wedding photographer based in Newport, Shropshire.
My discreet approach allows you to enjoy every moment of your wedding day with your family and friends, with the minimum of interruption. There will be no cheesy grins or forced smiles! It will just be me and my camera photographing your wedding as it happens naturally. Natural moments can't be created, they occur organically throughout the day and my photographs will tell the true story of your wedding day - The best day of your life!
I spent fifteen years photographing high profile news and sports stories and picked up a few awards along the way. I was one of a handful of accredited photographers outside the doors of Westminster Abbey at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. This, perhaps unsurprisingly, is one of my most high profile weddings to date!
There are few situations I haven't had to cope with, from being on assignment with the British army in East Africa to struggling to look through my viewfinder after tear gas had been fired during riots at the European football championships. The diversity of my experiences whilst working as a photojournalist have made me into the photographer that I am today. Everything doesn't always go quite to plan during a wedding day but you can be assured that with my wealth of experience, I will be a calming presence.
Storytelling is right at the heart of my wedding photojournalism and you can view my wedding portfolio by clicking here.
Your images will be a true reflection of the greatest day of your life...
I would love to tell the story of your wedding. Your day will be unique and there will be so many memories for me to capture. The story will unfold in front of me, typically from the bridal preparations until the party is in full swing about an hour after the first dance. This is when the real fun happens!
In years to come, the photographs from your wedding will be the biggest reminder of your wedding day. My style is authentic and won't date. I photograph in a mixture of colour and black and white and wherever possible use natural light and usually only use flash during the dancing.
Although I'm a documentary wedding photographer, I understand that weddings are family occasions and some group shots are wanted. Of course I'm happy to take these but I would suggest they're kept to a minimum (5-6 groups) in line with my style of photography. I will work efficiently during the group shots and it often helps if the ushers and bridesmaids are able to help out.
I'm based in Newport in Shropshire but I photograph weddings across the UK and travel to mainland UK weddings is included.
Just A Little Bit More…
When I’m not photographing or editing weddings, I can often be found with my camera in hand working on personal photographic projects. I have had two solo exhibitions and I draw inspiration from photographers such as Martin Parr, Bruce Davidson, Bruce Gilden, Peter Dench, Dougie Wallace and Elliott Erwitt.
Away from photography, I am married to Jessie and have three amazing boys. I love the great outdoors and I compete in Cross Country mountain bike races and I've recently returned from three weeks trekking in the Everest region of the Himalayas in Nepal. I also seem to have a growing collection of old Nikon film cameras and retro mountain bikes...
My wedding coverage starts at £1100. For weekday weddings, please contact me for a quote.
If you would like to contact me about wedding photography in Shropshire or elsewhere in the UK, I would love to hear from you.
